Corrections
We would rather be corrected than be wrong. If a value here does not match the game, tell us the entity, the build, and what you see, and we will re-pull and compare.
What we change
- A value that does not match the client table for that build: we re-pull the build and fix it.
- A parsing or join error on our side: we fix the pipeline and re-diff every affected build.
- An unidentified column later given a real name upstream: we adopt it and list the change under Recent corrections below.
What we do not change
We publish what the client actually ships, even when it looks surprising, because the client is the record. We do not silently edit a value to what we think it "should" be.
Recent corrections
Fixes that changed what a page told readers, dated by the day each was fixed.
- The WoW Forever beta page opened with Blizzard's first schedule, a beta running through October 21, after Blizzard had moved the close to October 23 and then closed the beta, and its FAQ still asked when the beta starts and ends.
Now: The page opens with Blizzard's word that the beta is now closed and its November 4 launch, and the FAQ gives the first schedule beside the later October 23 end time, each dated. Affected: The WoW Forever beta page, its opening answer, its FAQ and its meta description. - Changes between WoW Forever builds quoted a tooltip fix of only punctuation or capitalization as if it were new text, so Consecration read as gaining a new damage sentence when only a full stop was added, and a reworded tooltip sentence was quoted without the words it replaced.
Now: A fix of only punctuation, capitalization or spacing reads as exactly that, such as "tooltip punctuation changed", and a reworded sentence shows the earlier build's words beside the newer ones. Affected: The changes between Forever builds section of spell pages, and of item pages that read through their spells. - The provenance line at the foot of entity, hub and compare pages, the home page and the methodology page footer gave a sync date earlier than the Classic Era build they compared against, and the methodology page and the datamining guide gave an old count of 10,169 withheld Classic Era items.
Now: The sync date is the later sync of the two builds a page reads, and the withheld item count is read from the diff, so both follow each new build. Affected: The provenance line on entity, hub and compare pages, the home page, the methodology page and its footer, and the How WoW datamining works guide. - Beacon of Light, three ranks of Elune's Grace and an older Classic Era Mangle said they were removed in WoW Forever and only exist in Classic Era, while the WoW Forever client still grants a spell of the same name and class through a rune spell it ships.
Now: Each page says the WoW Forever client ships no data for that row but still grants a same-name spell of its class, names that spell and the spell that grants it, and is badged not shipped. Affected: Those spell pages, their titles, answers, FAQs and badges. - Spells the game lets you cast from any distance, such as Devastate, gave a range of 50,000 yards, which is the game's marker for no range limit, not a distance.
Now: They say "Anywhere range", the game's own name for it, and a range change reads "from 30 yd to Anywhere". Affected: Spell pages, their tooltips and descriptions, spell lists and compare pages, and range change notes on item pages. - Mangle, Intervene, Crusader Strike and six other Classic Era spells said they were removed in WoW Forever and only exist in Classic Era, while the WoW Forever client still grants each one through a rune spell it ships.
Now: Each page says the WoW Forever client ships no data for the spell but still grants it through the named spell, so whether it changed is unknown, and is badged not shipped. Affected: Those spell pages, their titles, answers, FAQs and badges, and the Envenom chooser. - The runes page missed Cobra Slayer, whose Engrave spell the client names without the "Engrave" prefix, so it counted 271 Engrave spells and 278 rune items, and the Cobra Slayer page did not say it is a Hunter Gloves rune.
Now: Cobra Slayer is listed under Hunter with its Gloves slot and its rune item, the page counts 272 Engrave spells and 279 rune items, and the Cobra Slayer page opens as a Hunter Gloves rune. Affected: The runes and engraving page, and the Cobra Slayer pages. - An item's Use spell that also deals damage or heals on its own, with no tooltip line for it, listed only the spells it triggers, so Satchel of Potions left out its Fire damage to the caster.
Now: The unprinted damage or heal is listed beside the triggered spells, with its range, and marked as not printed in the tooltip. Affected: Item pages, their answers and their FAQs. - Classic Era talent abilities such as Vampiric Embrace were mistaken for Season of Discovery runes, so /nerfs/ and /buffs/ left them out while their own pages and class hubs called them nerfed or buffed.
Now: Talent abilities are graded and listed, and each class section says how many of its class hub's nerfs or buffs the page leaves out by scope. Affected: The nerfs and buffs pages. - Rip and 22 other spells lost lines on their Classic Era cards, such as Rip stopping at "by your Attack Power:", because numbers only Classic Era's description stores were never recorded.
Now: The Classic Era card prints every line the Classic Era tooltip prints. Affected: Spell pages, such as Rip. - Spells that are permanent in both clients said their duration changed, although neither tooltip prints a duration.
Now: A spell with no timer in either client says nothing about its duration. Affected: Spell pages and their descriptions. - When an item moved to another broad class under the same printed subtype, such as Trade Goods to Consumable under Explosives, the move showed nowhere on its page.
Now: The note under the tooltips lists the class move. Affected: Item pages, such as Explosives and Reagent items. - A talent's passive rank spells, such as Furor and Anger Management, were listed twice on class surfaces: once as the talent and again as a spellbook row, and counted twice.
Now: A passive talent rank appears once, under its talent. Abilities a talent grants, such as Stormstrike, keep their spellbook row. Affected: Class hubs, class digests, the home class card and class share cards. - A class ability that is buffed or nerfed on its own page but shares its name with other spells was missing from the buffs and nerfs lists, and Last Stand was mistaken for a rune.
Now: Each such ability is graded like any other and linked to its own page. Affected: The buffs and nerfs pages and the home page lists. - Spell tooltips used the plural after a value of 1 ("Removes 1 diseases"), and Chronostatic Preservation printed part of its tooltip in literal brackets.
Now: Tooltips read "Removes 1 disease", "every 1 second" and "Awards 1 combo point", and the bracketed text reads as the client shows it. Affected: Spell and talent pages. - Item cards dropped category cooldowns and charges or printed a raw "(120s cd)", and 11 items said their effect changed when only the cooldown's storage column moved.
Now: Cards print the cooldown the game applies in its own words ("2 Min Cooldown") and an "N Charges" line, and an effect is compared by what the card shows. Affected: Item pages. - Four enchants (Armor +10, +20, +30 and +70) were listed as changed and renamed to the name they already had.
Now: An enchant name that fills in to the same Classic Era name reads as unchanged. Affected: Enchant pages and the enchants hub. - The Classic Era item card showed the wrong armor, weapon damage and durability, and 12 items said they gained Bonus Armor that they already had in Classic Era.
Now: The Classic Era card shows Classic Era's own values, and Classic Era armor stored as Bonus Armor in WoW Forever reads as unchanged. Affected: Item pages. - The talent calculator and talent rank cards labelled talents Passive or Active by guesswork, which did not always match the client.
Now: A talent reads Passive only when the client flags its spell passive. Affected: Talent pages and the talent calculator. - Item effects on items that cannot be equipped, such as quest items, consumables and keys, were printed with an "Equip:" prefix.
Now: Those effects print with no Equip prefix or label. Affected: Item pages. - Classic Era cards printed "a chance" where the Classic Era tooltip prints a number such as "a 33% chance", and lost charge and target counts the same way.
Now: The Classic Era card prints the proc chance, charges and target count the Classic Era tooltip prints. Affected: Spell pages, on about 95 spells. - Spell change sentences said "tooltip text changed", "buff text changed" or "reworded" when both tooltips read word for word the same.
Now: A text change is named only when the words a reader sees differ. Affected: Spell page answers, descriptions and change lists. - Talent pages said the ability a talent grants is unchanged when that ability was new in WoW Forever or gone from it, on about 50 talents.
Now: The page says whether the granted ability is new, removed or unchanged. Affected: Talent pages. - Passive spells printed "Instant" on their tooltip cards and "instant cast" in their answers, titles and descriptions.
Now: A passive spell's card has no cast line, and a spell that became passive, or stopped being passive, says so. Affected: Spell pages. - Removed talents whose spell the WoW Forever client still ships, such as Blessing of Kings, Consecration and Lightwell, said the ability only exists in Classic Era.
Now: The talent page says the ability is no longer on the talent tree but the client still has its spell, and links the spell page. Affected: Talent pages and the matching spell pages. - The opening answer on an item page, and on a gear recipe page, stopped after the fourth stat, so it hid stats the tooltip below it shows.
Now: The answer lists every stat the client gives the item. Affected: Item pages and gear recipe pages. - The note under the tooltips said a duration or subclass change is not shown when the card already marks it, as on Arcane Intellect.
Now: The note lists only changes no tooltip line shows. Affected: Spell and item pages. - Core class abilities such as Stormstrike, Aimed Shot and Holy Shock had no class, so their pages never named it and they were missing from class hubs and the buffs, nerfs and new spells lists.
Now: These abilities take the class the client's own spellbook line names, and are listed with it. Affected: Spell pages, class hubs and the buffs, nerfs and new spells pages. - A quoted client sentence was cut at a stop followed by a lowercase word, so the Nature's Swiftness description ended its quote at "10 sec."
Now: A quote runs to the real end of the client's sentence. Affected: Spell page descriptions and answers. - Talent ranks that WoW Forever folds into one spell read as removed, and talent spell pages said every rank differs.
Now: Each rank reads as a rank of the talent's one WoW Forever spell and is compared at that rank. Affected: Talent spell group pages. - 37 WoW Forever talent spells described a proc chance change from an old column that contradicted their own tooltip, such as Weaponmaster's "from 1% to 5%".
Now: The change sentence follows the chance the tooltip shows. Affected: Spell pages and their descriptions. - The changed-page FAQ said the two tooltips are shown side by side on pages that show other fields instead, such as zone, faction, set and enchant pages.
Now: The FAQ names what the page actually shows. Affected: Changed entity page FAQs. - The talent calculator refused a point in Arcane Wrath with a tier rule the client does not have, and Copy link could copy a link that did not hold the build.
Now: Arcane Wrath opens once Arcane Blast has a point, as the client rules, and Copy link always copies the build on screen. Affected: The talent calculator. - Items in the builds feed and the class feeds were dated by the day we synced a build, not the day it was first seen, which their titles name.
Now: Each feed item is dated by the day its build was first seen. Affected: The builds feed and the class feeds. - Four enchant pages and the enchants hub said a Classic Era enchant gave 0, as in "Holy Damage 0 to 20", when its bonus came from the spell it applied.
Now: The page says what happened, such as "Equip bonus now a +20 Holy Damage stat". Affected: Enchant pages and the enchants hub. - The "Was it nerfed" FAQ said a change does not all point one way on pages where nothing pointed both ways, including zones, sets, enchants, factions, recipes and most items.
Now: The mixed reason appears only when the changes really point both ways. Affected: Changed entity page FAQs. - Tooltips that divide a client number printed long decimals, such as Seal of Righteousness at "1.24138 to 4.32 Holy damage".
Now: Those values print at most one decimal, as in "1.2 to 4.3". Affected: Spell pages, such as Seal of Righteousness and Flametongue Weapon. - About 30 WoW Forever talent spells showed a value of 0, as in "a 0% chance", because their real value lives in the talent's rank data.
Now: These spells show their rank 1 value, with a line saying which rank is shown. Affected: Talent spell pages, their answers and descriptions. - Tooltips that state an internal cooldown inside a calculation dropped the whole sentence.
Now: The sentence reads with its cooldown, as in "once every 1.5 sec." Affected: Spell pages. - Spirit Bond was called nerfed, although it went from 2% of total health every 10 sec to 1% every 5 sec, the same healing rate.
Now: A number after "every" is read as a period, where smaller means more often, so Spirit Bond reads changed. Affected: Talent pages, the nerfs page and their titles and badges. - An internal level move to or from 0 struck through "Requires level N" on the WoW Forever card and put "Now" before facts that had not changed.
Now: That move reads as internal everywhere. A real level change, such as Mana Tide Totem from 40 to 25, still shows. Affected: Spell pages. - When WoW Forever dropped or added an item's skill requirement, such as Horn of the Black Wolf no longer needing Wolf Riding, the empty side read "not in this client".
Now: The empty side reads "none". Affected: Item pages. - Rows on pages that list several spells of one name dropped values borrowed from another spell, leaving sentences with words missing.
Now: Those values are filled in the same way the spell's own page fills them. Affected: Same-name spell pages. - The answer box on profession hubs counted crafted-item rows as changed recipes, so it disagreed with the intro above it (Cooking: 81 changed against 12).
Now: The box counts only recipes and names crafted-item changes after the counts. Affected: Profession hubs. - Item pages said the item's tooltip matches Classic Era when one of its own Use, Equip or Chance on hit lines read differently.
Now: The item reads changed, buffed or nerfed through the line that moved. Affected: Item pages, such as Gnomish Cloaking Device and Bag of Marbles. - When a spell's cost switched between a flat amount and a percent of base mana, it read as a false drop to 0 Mana, as on Multi-Shot and Stormstrike.
Now: The switch reads as one cost change, such as "from 100 Mana to 13.9% of base mana". Affected: Spell pages, their answers, FAQs and descriptions. - Channeled spells such as Evocation, Arcane Missiles and Drain Life were shown as Instant.
Now: They read Channeled. A channel with a real cast time keeps its cast time. Affected: Spell pages and their answers. - The talent calculator opened every capstone one point early, at 29 points in its tree, and loaded a shared link without checking it against the rules.
Now: Capstones open at 30 points, and a shared link is checked and repaired when it loads. Affected: The talent calculator. - 1,044 recipe, pattern, plans, formula and tome items were called changed when their Use text reads word for word what the Classic Era item teaches.
Now: They read Unchanged with a "same text" badge and are counted apart. Affected: Recipe item pages, hubs and the home page total. - Hub answer blocks described re-filed items and talent column moves with wording meant for spells (base level, spell level, duration).
Now: Each kind of behind-the-scenes change gets its own count and its own wording. Affected: The items, talents and other hub pages. - Item hub rows read through a Use spell showed the item's re-filing, such as "Consumable to Food and Drink", instead of the Use change.
Now: Those rows show the Use line that changed. Affected: The items hub. - Profession hubs left out crafted items that changed through their Use spell, such as Iron Grenade, the wizard oils and Egg Nog.
Now: Those items are listed, matching their item and recipe pages. Affected: Profession hubs. - Class digests that compare two WoW Forever builds labelled their tooltip sides "Classic Era" and "Forever".
Now: Each side is labelled by its build's day, and the feed reads "was" and "now". Affected: Class digest pages and the class feeds. - Set pages showed a piece the WoW Forever client withholds as a bare item number, and when a set's piece list changed, the set pieces card said each piece name became none.
Now: Each client's own piece names are shown, a withheld piece reads by its Classic Era name with a withheld tag, and added and dropped pieces are listed as such. Affected: Item set pages. - Talent pages could give a different buff or nerf verdict than the class hubs, and a talent whose rank values moved both ways was netted into one verdict.
Now: Talent pages use the same buff and nerf rule as the hubs, and a talent whose values move both ways reads as changed. Affected: Talent pages and their titles, descriptions and badges. - About 70 talent pages said a talent had 1 rank when the talent tree gives it more, up to 5.
Now: The rank count comes from the talent tree, so it matches the page body and the talent calculator. Affected: Talent page descriptions, answers and rank change sentences. - Text that differed only in spacing counted as a change, so some entries read renamed next to the same name, or reworded with the same words.
Now: Text that differs only in spacing reads as unchanged. Affected: Every kind of entity page. - When the client moved a spell's cooldown from one column to another, the spell could be titled Nerfed and its description could name a cooldown change, even though both tooltips showed the same cooldown.
Now: A spell's cooldown is graded and described by the one cooldown its tooltip shows. Affected: Spell pages, such as Prowl and Shell Shield. - Talents whose rank tooltips were reworded but kept the same numbers read as unchanged.
Now: A reworded rank tooltip counts as a change. Differences only in case, spacing, commas, periods, colons or semicolons still do not. Affected: Talent pages and the talents changed count.
